Talent Map is working closely with a privately owned import & distribution business. With close to 40 years of history, this company has successfully grown from humble beginnings to now becoming a key national supplier to a suite of household companies. Situated in the western suburbs of Melbourne, they are seeking an experienced management accountant to join their business. 
 
The Role
This is a newly created position reporting to and working closely with the Commercial Finance Manager. Not only will you play a central in financial reporting, commercial analysis and business decision support, but this is a  genuine opportunity to gain exposure to senior leadership and influence commercial strategy in a growing, privately held business.
 
You key responsibilities will include:  

• Prepare and analyse monthly management accounts (P&L, balance sheet and cash flow)
• Conduct variance analysis against budget, forecast and prior periods, identifying trends and recommending action
• Analyse revenue and margin performance by customer, product and channel
• Manage inventory valuation and stock movement analysis
• Assess pricing and profitability for new and existing products
• Monitor freight, warehousing and distribution costs
• Prepare financial reports and presentations for senior stakeholders, including company owners
• Translate data into clear commentary and actionable business insights
• Monitor accounts receivable and payable performance
• Contribute to budgets, forecasts and financial planning

The Candidate
To be considered for this role, you will bring:  

• Degree qualified in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline
• 3-5 years' relevant experience in management accounting or commercial finance
• Strong grasp of financial accounting principles and management reporting
• Confident preparing and interpreting P&L, balance sheet and cash flow statements
• Well-developed analytical and numerical skills, with experience in variance analysis, margin reviews and trend assessments
• Experience with accounting/reporting systems such as MYOB, Power BI or similar ERP/BI platforms
• Advanced Excel skills, including large datasets, modelling and reporting automation
• Strong communicator, able to translate financial information for non-finance stakeholders
• Commercially aware, with a practical, solutions-focused approach
• Detail-oriented and organised, able to manage competing priorities and deadlines without compromising accuracy
• Comfortable working independently and collaborating with senior stakeholders
